This thanksgiving day was a bitter sweet event. It was wonderful being with family, but sad because my (miranda) Papaw William Steinhauer is no longer with us. He passed away on January 10, 2009 and this is our first year of not having him for the holidays. For most of the day no one even talked about Papaw, but then my Aunt Moni shared a song from Phillips, Craig, and Dean and it just sounded like it was written about my Papaw. There was not a dry eye in the house. And I was so thankful that she shared that, because I was beginning to think no one was even going to talk about Papaw.
That afternoon we headed back home and took a good long nap. Because at 10p.m. Jeremy headed down to Walmart to stay until 5 a.m. when the black friday sale started. We have been saving and planning to get a laptop for JMC Ministries, and Walmart had the best deal. Jeremy was the first in line for the item we were wanting, and even witnessed to some people and gave out some of our ministry business cards.
When 5 a.m. came Jeremy was the first in line for the item we wanted. It took him about 5 seconds to get the computer, but nearly an hour to check out and then get out of the parking lot! To just drive 4 miles home. He didn’t get in until after 6 a.m. I of course didn’t sleep at all during the night worrying if he was going to be trampled or even robbed. In the past 3 months there have been a lot of robberies in our town, and that put me on edge. But God protected him and he made it out just fine, and even wants to do it again next year. However, I think he is a bit nuts due to the fact he was so stressed out the entire time. That is why I stayed home. Luckily we only have 4 more gifts to buy and we are done with our Christmas Shopping.
So that is our Thanksgiving day, and Jeremy’s first experience with Black Friday.
